About Warriors of Fate
Warriors of Fate is Capcom’s brawler about the most dramatic stretch of Chinese history: the collapse of the Han dynasty and the war that Romance of the Three Kingdoms made eternal. Released to arcades in 1992 on CPS1 hardware — known in Japan as Tenchi wo Kurau II — it follows the desperate retreat at Changban all the way to the fire attack at Red Cliffs. The cabinet sells it with the board’s trademark huge sprites: massed spearmen, armored generals, burning camps and banners, and five of the era’s great warriors waiting on the select screen.
The roster is the deepest Capcom had offered at the time and the reason the game rewards replay. Guan Yu sweeps crowds with his glaive, Zhang Fei brawls with spear and temper, Zhao Yun is the balanced spearman, the hulking Wei Yan knocks people over for a living, and Huang Zhong fights with a bow — the one true ranged pick, a genuinely different game inside the same cabinet. Up to three players can share the campaign, and the argument over who gets to be the archer has outlived most of the genre.
The fighting follows the house style — attack chains, jump attacks into crowds, and a desperation special that clears your surroundings for a sliver of health — but the battlefield gives it texture. Enemy soldiers drop swords and other arms you can take up mid-fight, roast provisions restore health between waves, and the enemy mix of spearmen, archers and armored brutes makes positioning matter more than it ever did on city streets. The bosses are Wei generals with real weight — Xu Chu’s grabbing game is infamous — and the final confrontation is with Cao Cao himself, which hands the run an ending most brawlers never bother to write.
Among CPS1 brawlers its reputation has aged better than most: fans rank it among the deepest of the era for the weapon game and the unforgiving bosses, and it never wore itself out through endless console versions. It plays here free through the Internet Archive’s official arcade emulator — nothing to install, no account, keyboard controls, and a first load of ten to forty seconds while the board boots in your browser. Stick and two buttons are the whole interface, so desktop is the way in; on touch devices, follow the Internet Archive link.

Tips & Strategy
TIP 1
Fight at the edge of your weapon’s reach — spearmen and archers both punish heroes who walk inside their own swing.
TIP 2
Take the dropped sword every time: enemy arms hit harder and wider than fists, and there is always another one a screen later.
TIP 3
Huang Zhong changes the game entirely — ranged shots skip the crowd problem altogether, so learn his rhythm before taking him into a full run.
TIP 4
The desperation special is a get-out-of-jail card for grabs and surrounds; spending it early against common soldiers is how bosses end up fighting a wounded hero.
TIP 5
Kill archers first — their volleys interrupt everything, and they always stand exactly far enough back that you forgot they were there.
