About Cross Road

Cross Road is the endless hopper: a small green frog, lanes generated one after another forever, and a simple law of nature — grass is safe, roads belong to the cars, and rivers belong to the logs. Every input is exactly one hop, so the game reads your intent one tile at a time and never punishes you with drift or momentum. The world does not scroll on its own either: the camera only follows where you choose to climb.

Roads run traffic in both directions at speeds that climb row by row, and the safe gaps between cars narrow as you go; car widths and colours vary, so reading a lane is a genuine skill rather than a memory test. Rivers are the quieter danger: logs slide across continuously, you ride whichever one you land on, and standing on open water for even a moment is fatal. A log that carries you off the edge of the screen counts as a swim too, so ferries need planning, not just nerve.

The generator has a sense of fairness: it never deals three dangerous lanes of the same kind in a row, so a wall of roads or an endless river is never stacked against you, and there is always grass to breathe on. The camera follows you upward, you may back up three rows when a lane looks hopeless, and the score is simply the furthest row you ever reached — the game counts exploration, not risk for its own sake.

Hold the on-screen pad to stream hops on mobile, swipe the board, or play on the keyboard with arrows or WASD. The classic mistakes are all positioning errors: entering a road without reading its direction first, standing on the tip of a log, and refusing to retreat until retreat is no longer offered. Cars arrive in different widths and colours, log lanes drift at a more forgiving pace than traffic, and the opening grass rows give you a moment to read the pattern before the first real crossing. Everything about the difficulty is telegraphed rather than sprung, and the swipe control carries a small dead-zone so an accidental brush never costs a hop. Best score and medals live in your browser, there is no timer anywhere in the game, and nothing interrupts a run — no ads, no accounts, just the next lane.

How to Play Cross Road

  1. 1

Press Start and hop forward from the opening grass.

  2. 2

Read each road lane before entering: direction first, then the size of the gaps in traffic.

  3. 3

On rivers, hop onto a log — it carries you sideways while you plan the next hop.

  4. 4

You may retreat up to three rows if the lane ahead looks impossible.

  5. 5

Standing on open water is fatal, and so is drifting off the edge on a log.

  6. 6

A car strike or a splash ends the run; your score is the furthest row reached.

Tips & Strategy

TIP 1

Land in the middle of logs, not on their ends — edge riders run out of log faster than they expect.

TIP 2

Traffic alternates direction lane by lane; reading two rows ahead turns crossings into rhythm instead of luck.

TIP 3

There is no timer — pausing on grass is free, so hesitate there and never mid-river.

TIP 4

Backing off is a move, not a defeat: the three retreat rows exist precisely for the log line you cannot make.

TIP 5

When two log rows move in opposite directions, hop at the moment the logs overlap — the crossing window is widest there.

Frequently Asked Questions

I was standing on a log and still died — why?

The log kept drifting and carried you past the edge of the screen. Riding a log is safe, but the river decides when the ride is over.

Can I move backwards?

Yes, up to three rows behind your record row. The score never counts backwards — only the furthest row you reached matters.

How does difficulty scale?

With every row: car lanes get faster and their safe gaps shrink, while the mix of grass, road and river keeps shifting so no two runs look alike.

Why do the medals change?

A new personal record earns the crown, a strong run of forty rows or more earns gold, and every other finish gets a participation medal — the milestones are permanent, so they stay honest.
